LiUNA Training and Education is an important part of the Laborers’ International Union of North America and one of the premier adult training organizations in the world. With over 70 affiliated training centres throughout Canada and the United States. We provide employers with their most important resource: a highly trained, safe and effective workforce. Each year hundreds of thousands of workers are empowered to realize their dream of a lucrative and rewarding career in the construction industry.


Local 1089 Training Centre offers a wide variety of programs & courses in our new world class training facility. We strive to be recognized as a pinnacle training institution for LiUNA, the construction industry and our community.


The LiUNA Local 1089 Training Centre provides the most inclusive training programs to our dedicated apprentices and members by incorporating the new technologies and recognized methods of training delivery. We provide training that includes the use of new materials, tools and techniques that simulates present day job sites. Our model of adult education is a perfect balance of -

  • Instructor Demonstration
  • Hands-on training Practical Application.

    Independent accreditation. That means quality of products, attainment of the highest standards, and assessment of competency. That means our partner employers know they are getting the best-trained workforce in the industry. For our graduates it means certified instructors teaching from accredited trade curriculum. Ultimately independent accreditation means a substantial return on investment and the added value of a productive, skilled and safe Construction Craft Labourer.

  • Certified Instructors

    LiUNA Local 1089 Instructors are embedded into a structured high quality, rigorous instructor training and certification program (ANSI Certification). LiUNA Training, together with training directors, instructors, and educators, have worked diligently to create a set of world-class instructional standards that provide the foundation for the Instructor Training and Certification Program. Instructors are measured against these standards to establish a baseline of supportive action, a starting point of achievement and an individual plan for life-long improvement. LiUNA Training has also aligned its program to these standards to help instructors gain the knowledge and skills needed to meet and exceed these standards.  

  • Qualified Instructors

    The LiUNA Training Instructor Training and Certification Program, established in 2012, provides recognition to LiUNA instructors who have demonstrated mastery of the instructional standards in designated areas – teaching, math, reading and computer. 

    Credential Maintenance is a required process by which LiUNA Training Certified Instructors renew their credentials every year through continuing education or teaching experience. Only actively employed, affiliated LiUNA training fund Instructors are eligible to submit documentation for credential maintenance. The renewal process allows LiUNA Instructors to continue developing professionally, keep abreast of the most current trends on education and training, and improve job performance.

  • The Instructor commitment

    LiUNA Training certified instructors believe that the quality of their work directly influences the success of LiUNA members and signatory contractors. Certified instructors are responsible for building their knowledge of sound educational practice and are obligated to implement those practices in their classrooms whenever they teach. 

    Certified instructors recognize their primary responsibility to the trainee and the development of the trainee’s full potential. A certified instructor engages in continuing professional development and keeps current with industry research, technology, encourages and supports the use of resources that best serve the interests and needs of LiUNA members and the industry.


    LiUNA Local 1089 is a Certified Training Delivery Agency (TDA) for the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) for

    Construction Craft Worker - 450 A 

    Cement (Concrete) Finisher - 244G.
